R. Michael Paravagna

Michael Paravagna began his career in the disability community in 1975. Employed by the California Department of Rehabilitation for 32.5 years, Paravagna served as a Rehabilitation Counselor, in management roles in the Habilitation Program and Business Enterprise Program for the Blind. He was the Statewide Administrator for the Vocational Rehabilitation / Work Activities Program, which was designed to provide opportunities for adult with developmental disabilities to secure employment outside Community Rehabilitation Programs. For 13 years he served as Chief of the Disability Access Section, which is a leading resource for disability civil rights in state government. Paravagna was also appointed to the California Buildings Standards Commission by Governor Schwarzenegger.

After leaving state government Paravagna served as Sacramento City wide ADA Coordinator for two year. He was also the ADA lead in the Los Angeles Community College Districts $6.1 billion dollar bond project.
In 2013, he was appointed by Governor Brown to the California Commission on Disability Access and designated by the Department of Rehabilitation as one of 50 Notable People in California’s Disability Community. He is also Treasurer for the National Association of ADA Coordinators (NAADAC).
Paravagna holds a MS Counseling from California State University, Sacramento, and a BA in psychology from California State University, San Jose. He is a graduate of the National Executive Leadership Institute, University of Oklahoma and is a Professional Associate of NAADAC.
